Sheryl Crow recently shared the title track of her upcoming studio album, Evolution.
The anthemic song features a guitar solo from Rage Against The Machine‘s Tom Morello, while Crow explores AI and its impact on humanity.
In a statement, Crow said, “Stephen Hawking worried that A.I. would replace humans. As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet – is A.I. going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It’s unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties.”
“I wrote the song with just me on guitar and vocals, sent it to Mike Elizondo and said, this is bigger than me, can you take a crack at it?,” she continued. “To me, Tom’s playing comes from some other planet. It’s a cool bit of kismet that we were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the same year, and his solo on Evolution just ejects you into space.”
The title track follows the album’s previously released single, “Alarm Clock.”
Evolution, Crow’s 11th studio album, is set to be released on March 29, 2024, through Big Machine. Featuring nine new songs, the album is produced by Mike Elizondo.
The album’s announcement was a surprise for fans, as the singer had previously publicly stated that she didn’t intend to release any additional full-length albums following her 2018 release Threads.
